Divine Mercy Novena Day 2 Prayer and Reflections

Divine Mercy Novena Day 2 is dedicated to the souls of priests and religious. The prayer asks Jesus to immerse them in His unfathomable mercy, increase His grace in those consecrated to His service, and give them the strength and light to guide others in the way of salvation.

Day 2 also invites prayer for all who serve the Church and humanity through spiritual leadership, works of mercy, and faithful service. The intention is expressed through the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, offered with trust in God’s mercy and with a desire that those who minister to others may themselves be strengthened, guided, and renewed.

Divine Mercy Novena Day 2 Intention

Today bring to Me THE SOULS OF PRIESTS AND RELIGIOUS, and immerse them in My unfathomable mercy. It was they who gave Me strength to endure My bitter Passion. Through them as through channels My mercy flows out upon mankind.

Most Merciful Jesus, from whom comes all that is good, increase Your grace in men and women consecrated to Your service, that they may perform worthy works of mercy; and that all who see them may glorify the Father of Mercy who is in heaven.

Opening the Prayer

1. Make the Sign of the Cross

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

2. Opening Prayers

You expired, Jesus, but the source of life gushed forth for souls, and the ocean of mercy opened up for the whole world. O Fount of Life, unfathomable Divine Mercy, envelop the whole world and empty Yourself out upon us.

Repeat three times:

O Blood and Water, which gushed forth from the Heart of Jesus as a fount of mercy for us, I trust in You!

The Day 2 Novena Prayer

Today bring to Me THE SOULS OF PRIESTS AND RELIGIOUS, and immerse them in My unfathomable mercy. It was they who gave Me strength to endure My bitter Passion. Through them as through channels My mercy flows out upon mankind.

Most Merciful Jesus, from whom comes all that is good, increase Your grace in men and women consecrated to Your service, that they may perform worthy works of mercy; and that all who see them may glorify the Father of Mercy who is in heaven.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the company of chosen ones in Your vineyard-upon the souls of priests and religious; and endow them with the strength of Your blessing.

For the love of the Heart of Your Son in which they are enfolded, impart to them Your power and light, that they may be able to guide others in the way of salvation and with one voice sing praise to Your boundless mercy for ages without end. Amen.

Reflections for Divine Mercy Novena Day 2

Praying for those who serve

Day 2 turns attention toward priests and religious, asking that God’s mercy surround those who have been consecrated to His service. The prayer recognizes that their ministry is not sustained by human strength alone, but depends upon grace, wisdom, courage, and continual openness to God.

Most Merciful Jesus, from whom comes all that is good, increase Your grace in men and women consecrated to Your service, that they may perform worthy works of mercy; and that all who see them may glorify the Father of Mercy who is in heaven.

Mercy flowing through faithful service

Through them as through channels My mercy flows out upon mankind. This image presents service as a channel through which God’s mercy reaches other people. The prayer therefore asks not only for protection and perseverance, but also for a deeper capacity to perform worthy works of mercy.

When praying for priests and religious, the intention can include their preaching, pastoral care, prayer, spiritual guidance, charitable service, and personal witness. The central request remains that their lives may direct attention toward the Father of Mercy.

Strength for spiritual leadership

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the company of chosen ones in Your vineyard-upon the souls of priests and religious; and endow them with the strength of Your blessing.

For the love of the Heart of Your Son in which they are enfolded, impart to them Your power and light, that they may be able to guide others in the way of salvation and with one voice sing praise to Your boundless mercy for ages without end. Amen.

This part of the prayer asks for strength and light so that priests and religious may guide others in the way of salvation. It also places their service within the love of the Heart of Jesus and asks that their ministry become an act of praise to Divine Mercy.

Praying with trust rather than discouragement

The closing prayer of the Chaplet asks God to increase His mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to His holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.

This request is especially meaningful when praying for people who carry spiritual responsibility. It expresses confidence that God can sustain them in difficult moments and can renew their commitment to loving service.

Prayers of the Chaplet

3. Our Father

Our Father, Who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, Amen.

4. Hail Mary

Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

5. The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell; on the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

6. The Eternal Father

On the Our Father bead:

Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your Dearly Beloved Son, Our Lord, Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world.

7. For the Sake of His Sorrowful Passion

On the ten small Hail Mary beads:

For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Repeat #7 and #8 for the remaining four decades.

9. Holy God

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One, have mercy on us and on the whole world.

Repeat three times.

Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion - inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit ourselves to Your holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.

The Divine Mercy Novena of Chaplets

A novena is typically nine days of prayer in preparation of a celebration of a feast day. At the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy, the Chaplet of Divine Mercy Novena is recited perpetually at the Hour of Great Mercy - the three o'clock hour.

The Chaplet can be said anytime, but the Lord specifically asked that it be recited as a novena. He promised, “By this Novena (of Chaplets), I will grant every possible grace to souls.”

“I desire that during these nine days you bring souls to the fountain of My mercy, that they may draw therefrom strength and refreshment and whatever grace they have need of in the hardships of life, and especially at the hour of death” (Diary, 1209).

The Nine Intentions of the Novena

For each of the nine days, our Lord gave Saint Faustina a different intention:

  • All mankind, especially sinners;
  • the souls of priests and religious;
  • all devout and faithful souls;
  • those who do not believe in God and those who do not yet know Jesus;
  • the souls who have separated themselves from the Church;
  • the meek and humble souls and the souls of little children;
  • the souls who especially venerate and glorify His mercy;
  • the souls detained in purgatory;
  • and souls who have become lukewarm.

A Simple Focus for Personal Prayer

On Day 2, the intention may be held in mind throughout the Chaplet: the souls of priests and religious. The prayer may include those who are serving faithfully, those facing difficult responsibilities, those who are discouraged, and those who need renewed strength and light.

The intention can also be prayed with gratitude for the people whose service has helped others encounter mercy, forgiveness, spiritual guidance, and hope. The central request is that all who are consecrated to God’s service may perform worthy works of mercy and guide others in the way of salvation.

Most Merciful Jesus, from whom comes all that is good, increase Your grace in men and women consecrated to Your service, that they may perform worthy works of mercy; and that all who see them may glorify the Father of Mercy who is in heaven.
